The Western section elected a new officer to begin a term at the close of the Western/Northeast joint section meeting. Ed Black, Manager, Grants and Accounting, University of Utah, has been elected to the position of President-elect.
Ed has been at the University of Utah for 12 years and has been a part of research administration on both the central and department administration levels. He worked in the pre-award office (Office of Sponsored Projects) and is currently the Grants and Accounting Manager for the SCI Institute, which is a permanent research institute of the University of Utah. Ed is a “cradle-to-grave” administrator. He oversees all external funding for the institute which has a wide variety of funding spanning federal funding sources (National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Department of Energy and NASA) as well as many projects with industry and foundation funding.
Ed has had many opportunities to serve the Western Section and has been a part of joint section meeting planning committees, serving as a co-chair track leader. He has also presented at section and annual SRA meetings. The following is from Ed’s candidate statement:”I am excited about SRA and the many possibilities it provides its members. I think that it is a great organization and the opportunity it provides all of us to interact and learn from each other.”
